WHY I WALK
Almost 9 years ago we got a surprise when Sophia came into the world at 26 weeks, weighing just 1.5 pounds. She stayed in the hospital for 10 weeks. She had two brain bleeds. She had laser surgery and nearly esacped being blind today. She could not breathe on her own for weeks. We did not know what to expect while raising a child that would face many challenges.
At age 3 Sophia started coming twice a week to the KIDS Center for therapy. She raced out of the car to see Miss Bonny and Miss Amy. She worked hard and it wasn't always easy. But she made great progress and at age 7 she was discharged because she was doing so well.
The KIDS Center means the world to us because it's a place where parents and kids can experience the life of having someone you love have a disability. But you quickly learn that it's all about ABILITY.
Today Sophia's in 3rd grade, and is doing great. She takes gymnastics twice a week and has some muscles (I call them guns) on her arms.
This walk is a FUN event that means so much. The money helps make sure all kids have the change to get what Sophia got - the best care around.
