Thank you for visiting my Polar Plunge page. I will be jumping into Lake Zorinsky on December 12 in hopes of raising money for our Special Olympians in the state of Nebraska. I have the privilege of serving on the Special Olympics board in Nebraska and it has been an incredible experience. The athletes I meet show me perseverance, courage, and pride. They have also received numerous benefits and learned skills through Special Olympics that help them be successful in life. Please consider helping support our courageous athletes.
Just a little update on things we are working on in Nebraska: In addition to successfully bidding on The 2010 USA National Games, which will bring thousands of athletes, families and friends from around the country to Nebraska next July, we initiated the Young Athletes Program last year which provides basic fitness programs and support for intellectually disabled children ages 2 to 8 who were previously too young for Special Olympics.
Nebraska has quickly become a benchmark state for Young Athletes Programs throughout North America and we have increased the number of athletes we serve by nearly 30% to approximately 4,000.
The Healthy Athletes Program has expanded as well and we plan to provide free medical, dental and vision care to thousands of athletes during the 2010 National Games.
Although commonly recognized for the Summer Athletic Games, it is important to note that Special Olympics is not in the business of sports - it is in the business of changing lives, and I am honored to be associated with this great organization.
Special Olympics provides those with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the communities it serves.
I remain truly inspired and humbled by the athletes I have been in contact with. THANK YOU!!!
