My name is Jovana Desarden and I am 26 years old . I was diagnosed with Scleroderma in 1997 when I was only 14 . My life has never been the same since that year. This disease has caused me to undergo multiple surgeries on my hands to improve mobilty and circulation . In 2007 it had also caused my lungs and esophagus to start deteriorating drastically. My next option was to undergo an experimental stem cell transplant at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago ,IL . I decided to make the decision to leave my son behind to in attempt to save my life. The treatment was intended to help reverse the progression of the disease if my body could survive through intense chemotherapy. I am blessed to say that i have been off oxygen use and a feeding tube since then. If i had to do it all over again i would . This treatment wasnt intended to be a cure but to help prolong my life so that i am able to watch my son grow into a great man. I am thankful to have so many friends and family who support me throughout the way and will owe this continued fight to them.
