Our personal message:
Hi. You're probably here because you've received my email appeal, so I won't bore you with more of that. Instead, let's contemplate that photo for a moment.
Some things have changed this year. First, I'm riding for more than twice the distance, and I've modified the bike accordingly. It rained last year and my feet tended to slip on the pedals (a pain when climbing hills!) so I sprung for cleats and the shoes that attach to them. Once I had these, I found that the handlebars were too swept back for comfort, so I got drop bars. After
that
, I decided that the seat, comfortable in the more upright stance, chafed too badly when bent forward. Chafing in the seat area is no good! So I swapped this nice, comfy saddle for a more classic, narrower and less padded "hatchet-head" saddle. I am no longer chafed; instead, I am sore. So this year, in addition to my profuse thanks, you'll get to see photos of me in those spandex, padded bike shorts that make for such high comedy.
I'll also be about ten pounds thinner. It turns out that, if you just ride a few dozen miles every week, rain or shine, you can eat all the pasta you want and still lose weight!
In all seriousness, though, thank you for donating. I think there are few better groups you can chip in to support than Bikes Not Bombs. I appreciate your help.
P.S.: If the team name doesn't make sense, then you should listen to Outkast more often.
P.P.S.: I know that, with other pledged donations, I've already topped my initial goal of $1,000. Thank you! I'm pushing on: can we make
two
thousand?!
