Dear Friends,
You may have seen my daughter, Fiona, around the barn with me and her sister Maeve. Fiona rides at the Therapeutic and Recreational Riding Center in Glenwood. Last year was Fiona's first year competing with the Special Olympics Equestrian Team and as you can see from the photo, she loved it.
At first the competition seemed like any other--riders looked fit and elegant in their show clothes astride their sparkling horses. Of course, something was different, but it wasn't the "differently abled-ness" of the riders. Instead, it was their obvious pleasure in showing--in the best sense of the word-- what they could do with their equine friends. It was the joy of simply riding in a dressage ring and saluting the judge with a mega-watt smile even if your circles were triangles.
Special Olympians know that it's pretty darn fun to ride. If for some reason you've forgotten that, you might want to come to this year's competition on June 14th. If you'd like to support Fiona and her teammates, we thank you in advance. This is a very secure way to donate to Special Olympics Howard County.
Please feel free to forward this to anyone else who might be interested!
Enjoy your ride,
Karen and Fiona
