My personal message:
I was diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome in 2001. Sjogren's Syndrome is an autoimmune disease that affects 4,000,000 Americans mostly women. It is the second most common autoimmune rheumatoid condition such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus yet most health care providers don't know much about it. It affects the moisture producing glands causing dryness of the eyes, mouth and other parts of the body. As with many autoimmune diseases, it can also cause fatigue, muscle aches, joint pain, and internal organ damage. It has interfered with all parts of my life leading me to consider early retirement something I would never have previously considered. Previously I had considered myself healthy, it has taken me 6 years to accept that I am now an ill person. As one who suffers from Sjogren's Syndrome, I have three goals: 1. Educate the Utah medical community about Sjogren's Syndrome 2. Provide education and support for Utah Sjogren Syndrome sufferers 3. Raise funds for research into Sjogren's Syndrome
