There I am finishing my second marathon, well kinda my first! What an emotional moment. Last year not only did I train for my first marathon, but with the support of my friends and family I raised awarness and money for the Organization for Autism Research (OAR). I trained for the Chicago Marathon, but many of us know how that ended! Due to the heat the marathon was cancelled and by mile 20 I had to walk it in. Three weeks later in Grand Rapids, Michigan I did it! I finished!! Not only for myself, but for all those who are affected by autism that touch my heart.
As an occupational therapist in the school setting I work with amazing children who are affected by Autism. Autism affects each of them differently but many of them struggle with learning, communication and socialization. I work with remarkable teachers, speech therapists and parents. Together we make a difference in each one of their lives.
Did you know that 1 in 150 are affected by Autism, the cause is unknown and there is no known cure. With your help and support to the Organization for Autism Research we can all make a difference!
