First off, thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I have decided that it is time to use my avid passion for competitive sport to help support a greater cause: Finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Below you will find a brief description about Cystic Fibrosis, the Triple Challenge Chicago Triathlon I will compete at in August and website information to help follow me train and follow the race for a cure.
For those unfamiliar, Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond (more information can be found at http://www.CFF.org).
In August 2010, I will be participating in the Chicago Triathlon - THE WORLD'S LARGEST TRIATHLON. To make this fundraising effort even better (for you at least), I have committed myself to participating in the Triple Challenge (68 total miles). The Triple Challenge includes:
- Super Sprint Triathlon, Saturday
- Sprint Triathlon, Sunday (.75k swim, 22k ride, 5k run)
- International (Olympic) Triathlon, Sunday (1.5k swim, 40k ride, 10k run)
More information can be found here: http://chicagotriathlon.com/?q=triple_challenge.html
To help me on my way to completing this Challenge, I'm asking for your help - by donating whatever you can to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. You can donate a lump sum or even donate as I train on a $/mile basis! Any and all contributions helps thousands around the world. And donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. My goal is to raise over $5,000, so help me get there and help find a cure!!!
