Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page. I hope you can help me support the Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter in the annual WALK FOR LUPUS NOW. The walk on Sunday, October 4th, 2009 in Cranford, NJ was a success, but fundraising MUST continue! The Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter Inc. (LFANJ) is a not-for-profit foundation, dedicated to improving the quality of life for lupus patients and their families through support groups, educational seminars and research. The Foundation’s programs and services, aimed at helping patients maintain a better quality of life, must be continued and expanded.
- ItIt's not weIt's not easy living with lupusI Lupus is a chronic, incurable autoimmune disease that can affect any organ in the body!
- The immune system causes the body to attack itself!
- Lupus has been called America’s least recognized major disease of children and adults!
- Almost two million Americans have this disease, with estimations of over 50,000 adults and children in NJ alone!
- It is more prevalent than AIDS, Sickle Cell Anemia, Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis or Cystic Fibrosis combined!
- Patients may suffer for years without getting a correct diagnosis!
- One out of 185 people suffers from lupus (9 out of 10 sufferers are women, most are in their prime)!
- Five-thousand people die every year!
It has not been easy living with lupus for the past 30 years. Lupus is also been prevalent in my own family, with my aunt who passed away from complications from the disease, to my brother and my son, who had neonatal lupus when he was born. I have made lifelong friendships volunteering for the LFANJ, but I have also gained much respect for those who suffer and those who fight for a cure. The mission of the LFANJ is to “educate and support those affected by lupus and to find a cure”.
