"Field of Dreams"
The Laurel School promotes children's activities in school and outdoors that engage the whole body and mind to encourage social growth, help establish life-long healthy habits, a sense of self, and a passion for learning. Evident throughout our school, these values are intrinsic to our culture and maintained in our environment. We are fortunate to own a beautiful facility with spacious land and playgrounds. At this point in our growth, we are designing a new plan for our outside environment. We need your help to build our "field of dreams."
Our current playing fields used by the entire school and summer campers for gross motor and cooperative play have endured for 28 years. After years of fun and games, the surface has become hard, packed clay making grass impossible to grow. Our goal is to redesign the area to allow for multiple use and environmental stewardship. In line with our mission, we want a green space for our children and children in our community. The area will have a blend of soft and hard surfaces, sun and shade spots, raised flower and vegetable beds around the perimeter, park benches, and delineated play spaces. This project is focused on a redesign of our open land area, not replacing our current playground structures or playground surfaces.
Our goal is to raise $40,000.00 (forty thousand dollars) between September 1st and December 15th of 2009.
Thank you for your support!
The Laurel School is a non-profit and non-sectarian institution offering educational programs for boys and girls from preschool through grade five and our families come from Bourne to Provincetown.
The Laurel School provides a loving, supportive environment promoting children with the opportunity, freedom, and trust to explore and learn. With consistent guidelines, structure and positive reinforcement children learn in an atmosphere of mutual respect. In this atmosphere, children develop confidence and a strong self-esteem and adults nurture and encourage children to become independent thinkers.
For 10 weeks during the summer, we offer a dynamic day camp serving the same age groups as our school program. Our campers come from the cape, all over the U.S., and many foreign countries. Camper families give the camp rave reviews and return year after year to enjoy a wonderful Cape Cod family summer experience in a nurturing atmosphere full of play and discovery that embraces the nature and culture of Cape Cod.
