As most of you know I enjoy athletic adventures. On Sunday, February 17, 2008 I'll be running in the AT&T Half Marathon.
Before I summitted Kilimanjaro I needed long braids and a GNU "Happy Hacking"t-shirt.... but for this half-marathon I need some help from you. I'm running for charity which will go toward Girlstart - an organization that I wish I had been a part of when I was growing up!
Girlstart gets girls more interested in math, science, engineering and technology (as you probably know, these are typically male-dominated fields) by presenting the subjects to them in a fun, girl-friendly environment. I have seen the way girls gain confidence through our programs. They lose that fear of being labeled a "smart girl" and really start dreaming about their future. Many of the girls in our programs come from a single-parent home, often with five or more people living off of less than $20,000 a year. An interest in math, science, engineering or technology can give girls the confidence they need to finish high school, the ticket they need to get to college, and a future career that will elevate their economic situation.
Won't you donate to this great cause? I promise I won't hack - just run - while you sit back and feel really good about helping our future generations!!
