Christine's Rescue Story

Christine's Rescue Story

Hi, my name is Christine and I’d like to share my story with you.

As you can see from my picture, I’m a small, senior lady with soulful eyes and a loving spirit.  What you can’t see are the physical and emotional scars I have from years of neglect.  But I’m happy to say, those sad days are all behind me now thanks to the kind folks from the Lexington Humane Society (LHS).

To give you a little background, I was one of 31 dogs LHS recently rescued from an overwhelmed, elderly owner.  My friends and I were living in dilapidated outside kennels where conditions were quickly deteriorating.  We were all in desperate need of vet care, grooming, and human companionship.

Thankfully, LHS was there for us.  And not a minute too soon!  After months of living with minimal shade in dirt-floored kennels, a few rainy days had turned my cage into a muddy pond.  All of the holes I had dug out of boredom had filled with water making it impossible for me to move around safely.  I had severely injured my leg and had lost all hope.  Luckily, the staff of LHS was there to scoop me up in the pouring rain and rush me to their shelter where I was soon safe and warm.

After gobbling down two cans of dog food, handfed to me of course, I was evaluated by their on-staff medical team.  Not only did I have a dislocated hip, I also had extreme dental disease and a severe parasite infestation.  I overheard the staff say they were shocked I still managed to wag my tail despite my pain and discomfort.  But it was easy to show my appreciation with a tail wag, after all I was in a safe place with people who would love and care for me!  I started regaining my hopeful spirit.

After a successful hip surgery and treatment of my parasites and dental disease, I’m now recovering with an amazing foster family and know I’ll soon find a forever home.

As you might have guessed, my treatment was very expensive and I’m only ONE of the thousands of animals LHS helps every year.  Please, DONATE NOW in support of the amazing work my LHS friends do to save animals like me—every dollar makes a difference!  With your support, LHS can continue to help animals in need a second chance.
