Description: Since 2005, the ROAR Donofrio Family Animal Shelter has made a remarkable contribution to Ridgefield and greater mid-Fairfield County by placing almost 2,000 dogs and cats in loving area homes. For the animals, ROAR is a life-saving experience, as most were abandoned, mistreated or scheduled to be destroyed. For families, ROAR brings joy and love into homes, enhancing quality of life. The ROAR Therapy Dog program brings smiles to seniors in nursing homes and first-graders in school reading programs. Sometimes it’s hard to tell who benefits more, the people or the animals.
Our objective is to treat ROAR dogs and cats as we would our pets at home. Through the generous help of volunteers, business partners, local veterinarians and staff, every cat and dog receives the same medical care, nutrition, exercise, attention and love that we give our own family animals.
We need YOU! ROAR depends on contributions from sponsors and individuals to cover the costs of its urgent, life-saving and life-enhancing work. It is only through the generosity of the community -- friends like you -- that ROAR can continue its operations.
Mission: To save and change lives through our programs and events to (1) promote the rescue, compassionate treatment and adoption of abandoned and surrendered dogs and cats, and (2) enrich life for animals and people and the remarkable bond between them.
