We once again ask for your support as we participate in the 5th Friends Ride for Neurofibromatosis on September 12, 2009. The ride spans the length of Cape Cod, MA in efforts to raise funds for research to fight Neurofibromatosis (NF). As you know, supporting NF research and finding a cure is important to us! Two weeks after returning from our honeymoon in Greece, Andrés had his fourth NF-related surgery to remove a second cancer recurrence. Andrés is now a three-time-survivor of MPNST, a relatively rare cancer that disproportionately strikes those with NF. It is unclear why MPNST is so prevalent among those with NF; so, there is a lot of work to be done.
This personal experience is one part of why we ride each year. We also ride to help support research that explores better treatment options and a cure for Neurofibromatosis. You may know that Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that can cause uncontrolled tumor growth anywhere in or on a person’s body at any time. NF affects both sexes and all races and ethnic groups equally, and can cause deafness, brain tumors, learning disabilities, disfigurement and as with Andrés: cancer. NF is more prevalent than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, and Huntington's disease combined. Your donation will go to promote NF research through the Harvard Center for NF and Allied Disorders (http://www.cnfad.org). Donate online, or download a form and send in your donation by mail. A donation of any amount is truly very much appreciated!
We know that everyone is stretched in many directions right now, but your donations, of any size, do make a difference. Eventually we will find better treatments and a cure.
Any donation of $175 or more receives a $50 matching gift!
Thank you so much for your support!
Andrés & Lindsay
