Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! As you may know, I feel strongly for the need to support the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. I believe that through education and support, these women and children will realize that they have options and a real support system. Mutual Ground empowers victims to regain control of their lives by providing them with the appropriate support (counseling and/or shelter), encouragement, and information.
In this country, every 10 seconds a woman is beaten. 10 SECONDS!!! And every 5 minutes a woman is raped. One in three girls and one in five boys will be sexually assaulted or abused by the time they are 18.
Mutual Ground provides 3500 room nights of shelter to women and children each year. One third of Mutual Ground's sexual assault program clients are children between the ages of 3-13. MGI also believes that education is the key in prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault. MGI has several pro-active programs that are tailored to fit our philosophy that social change is necessary to prevent these crimes.
On October 17, 2009, Mutual Ground is having their 2nd Annual Walk for Hope. I hope you will support me in my walk. And remember that no donation is too small -- every dollar adds up!
Here are some examples of what your donation could do:
For $13, a baby will be fed for three days.
For $19, a child who is a witness to domestic violence will have art supplies for therapy.
For $54, a victim of domestic violence will have two counseling sessions.
For $97, a victim and her family will have a night of shelter.
For $162, a victim of sexual assault will have two sessions of therapy.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
