Hi Everyone,
Here is a note from Amanda's Mom and Amanda's story,

We do have some additional exciting things happening for PCH. Today we met with the writer for the hospital Foundation and they publish a magazine each quarter. Amanda and the PICU (Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit) will be the featured story in the next issue due out next month I believe. We hope her story touches more people and continues to help the hospital. We are also going to help out at at upcoming event called Holiday Crafts, Cheers & Laughs. It is an annual holiday event for women with a guest speaker from PCH. That will be Amanda and I! I think God has decided to use us to get a very strong message out and we are more then happy to do it. Your run and the website and all you are doing it another wonderful event and it will provide so much help the hospital. All this is very rewarding for Amanda and she really feels she can make something positive out of her ordeal.
She finally finished all her school classed from last year and ended with all A's and one B. The B was in an honors course and she had an 88 so it was still very high! She is doing good this year and she has a very tough schedule. She visited UofA last weekend and is currently thinking, after all she has been through, she wants to ultimately be a pediatrician in order to help children!
Amanda enjoys watching baseball (Go Diamondbacks!), playing softball and listening to country music. She is not only beautiful but smart too, her favorite subject is Chemistry!
Less than 5 months ago Amanda suffered from something called Lemierre's Syndrome. There have only been 160 cases recorded in the last 40 years! It all started with a sore throat that turned into what her everyone assumed was the flu. Five days later she was taken to the hospital because she became so dehydrated. Once at the hospital doctors knew there was something else going on but it would take them several days to diagnose it since it is so uncommon. She underwent 6 surgeries, 3 in the first week. She was suffering from Sepsis and her lungs, kidneys and liver were affected. She will still be monitored as the impact on these organs is still unknown.
Please help me to exceed my goal! If you find yourself in a position to donate a few dollars to sponsor me I would greatly appreciate it! (No donation is too small.)
I also appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to visit this site. On behalf of all of the kids at Phoenix Children's Hospital, thank you for your support!
Thank you,
Lori :)
