Welcome to the Lower Passaic River Fundraising Page, hosted by the Passaic River Coalition!

My name is Allyson, I'm an environmental specialist with the Passaic River Coalition (PRC). One of my major responsibilities at the PRC is the "Now is the time to clean the Passaic River" campaign. The Lower Passaic River has been contaminated with toxic substances for far too long. At the PRC, we are committed to ensuring that the river is restored in an effective and efficient manner.

In order to properly clean the river, all 17 miles of the Lower Passaic River and Newark Bay need to be dredged. Once removed, this dredged material should be decontaminated using technology that will produce a beneficial use materials from the sediment. There is no such decontamination facility anywhere on the East Coast right now, so we believe one should be built in the Lower Passaic/Newark Bay region.

This monumental task cannot be completed without the support of the 14 municipalities that surround the Lower Passaic River. Our job at the PRC is to educate these towns and cities about the importance of cleaning the river and help them envision ways our communities can benefit from a safe and usable river.

1. Create and print more educational material (like flyers, posters, and brochures) about the river;

2. Give presentations about the cleanup project to town councils and community groups;

3. Organize letter writing campaigns;

4. Possibly even organize a series of informative boat rides along the river.
