Description: Improve the diagnosis and treatment of lupus, support individuals and families affected by the disease, increase awareness of lupus among health professionals and the public, and find the causes and cure.
Mission: The mission of the Lupus Foundation of America, Illinois Chapter is to address the needs of those affected by lupus, a serious chronic autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system fails to serve its normal protective functions. An estimated 65,000 people in Illinois endure this devastating disease. Roughly 16,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. For 30 years, the Lupus Foundation of America, Illinois Chapter has provided thousands of individuals with the latest medical information, support services, educational seminars, literature and physician referrals. As the number of people diagnosed with lupus rises, LFAI expands to better serve the lupus patient. Without these services, many patients would be without the emotional and medical support they need.
