Mark B. Hansen of Bend, Oregon, died at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday Feb. 22, 2008, from a rare form of cancer. Mr. Hansen was born on June 16th, 1956 , in Brookings South Dakota, the son of Maynard L. and Ruth L. Remmers-Hansen. He graduated from the University of Iowa in December 1978. He received his Juris Doctorate from Lewis and Clark School of Law in Portland, Oregon, May 1, 1983 and his MBA from Washington State University in August 1993. Mr. Hansen practiced law in Bend for the past 7 years. He began his law career in 1983 and was first associated with Hornstein & Duggan in Vancouver, Washington. He later established a private practice in Long Beach, Washington and Oak Harbor, Washington. Mr. Hansen played an integral part in establishing the "Volunteer Lawyers Program", of Island County, Washington. He loved his work and provided the highest integrity, honesty and professionalism. A deeply spiritual man, Mr. Hansen was inspired by a close connection with nature. He particularly liked to hike in the wilderness for solace to commune with the Creator. He loved the outdoors, the sun on his face, a good book. He enjoyed many recreational activities with family and friends, always providing fun and good humor for all. His gentle, kind spirit will be missed by many, both personally and professionally. Survivors include the love of his life, fiance Lori Stearns of Bend, daughter Danielle of Bend, his parents Maynard L. and Ruth L. Remmers-Hansen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a brother Neil of Franklin, Tennessee, two sisters, Kelley DeSousa and (Dan) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Lori Jensen and (Joel) of Franklin, Tennessee. Along with 6 nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Mark's life will be on Monday March 10th, 2008 at 2 o'clock in Bend, Oregon at The First United Methodist Church, 680 NW Bond Street, Bend, Oregon 97701. Memorial contributions may be made to, The Caring for Carcinoid Foundation, www.caringforcarcinoid.org or the Volunteer Lawyer Program of Island County in Washington (360)675-4750.
