About the Matibabu Foundation

Since 2003 the Matibabu Foundation has sought to develop a delivery system for community-owned, high-quality, affordable healthcare through its partnership with the people of Ugenya, Kenya, an extremely poor and disadvantaged area near Lake Victoria.  The Matibabu Foundation coordinates efforts by the American public, the American medical community, public and private organizations and NGOs to create sustainable local programs that for unmet medical needs.

Our Work

The Matibabu Foundation builds healthcare infrastructure and medical programs, and coordinates U.S. medical volunteers for communities in need.   The Foundation supports a permanent Kenya clinic and is involved with distributing HIV/AIDS medication, deworming schoolchildren, malaria abatement, children’s health and maternal wellness.

Why We Need Your Help

About 40% of the population has active AIDS or is HIV positive. Malaria and worms are endemic.  People suffer from TB, typhoid, tropical ulcers, trachoma, leprosy, severe scabies, or fungal skin diseases. The few inadequate medical facilities in the region are inaccessible due to distance, cost and poor transportation. The Matibabu Foundation alleviates these treatable medical conditions and needs your support for community campaigns to build a world class hospital, improve HIV/AIDS treatment, and expand maternity services.

Why Support Us?

The Matibabu Foundation sustains programs that give the Ugenya community a hand up---not a hand out. We are supported by a robust global network that includes medical professionals across the United States; and by an active local network that includes chiefs, government officials and Sarah Obama, President Barack Obama's grandmother. The Foundation is an experienced collaborator with organizations in Kenya and the United States including  the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the American President’s Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
