For 17 years, Matrix Theatre Company has kept a flame burning in Detroit.  A flame of creativity that gave a voice to people in isolated populations through the transformative power of art. 

Many lives have been changed by the Matrix flame, and this year, more than ever, Matrix Theatre Company needs your help to keep that flame burning for those people we serve.

Johnny Luevanos, an adult with a cognitive disability, worked –and was paid—to build the set for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.  He was thrilled to show us the wall he painted, the molding he cut, the box he built.  With eyes shining and a huge smile, he said “Me LOVE it!”

Ofelia Torres was the master-mind behind this year’s Haunted Theatre.  A young woman who started at Matrix as a child, she was inspired to research and write an original script, then recruit other young people to make the show a reality. We invested in her creativity when she was young, and now she is investing her creativity in the next generation.  The circle is unbroken.

None of us have to look far to see trouble and worry this holiday season. It is important to keep faith---and to take action to make it better.  Matrix makes it better--for children, for our community—for those most vulnerable—for you.

Matrix creates opportunities for people of all ages, abilities, and ethnicities to make something from nothing and to work with others to solve problems.  This work changes people.
It makes lives better. Hundreds of children, youth, and adults at Matrix know they can create something from nothing.  It’s critical everyone knows they have the power to create and to effect change.  Matrix makes this possible.  But it is never easy, fast, or free.
