McGee Milers 10th Year Running in the Hartford Marathon
The McGee Miler program began in 1998 when physical education teacher, Bryan Plona ran his first marathon. Not wanting to run alone, Plona ran with 36 of his middle school students from Catherine M. McGee Middle School in Berlin, CT. While Plona ran the full 26.2 miles, students ran 1 mile legs like a relay.
The program has evolved into a school event that now has 7 teachers and 126 students running in this years Hartford Marathon. In fact, the Jeff's Running Program was modeled after the McGee Miler Program, and now allows many other children to get involved with their own schools to participate in the Hartford Marathon.
This year student teacher Aaron Reich has joined the McGee Miler family and will be running in his first half marathon. Mr. Reich will be partnered up with his middle school students on his journey. Mr. Reich is running for the Organization for Autism Research. Donations are being collected on this page.
Since 1998 the McGee Milers have raised over $40,000.00 for various charities. This year the team will be collecting money for the McGee Wellness Center and Organization for Autism Research. Each online donation will be split to both of these worthy charities.
