DEAR FAMILY AND FRIENDS,

It seems only fitting that this site launched on Mary Claire's Birthday.  For 27 years, MC gave to all of us...her love, her zest for life and her innate goodness.  She even put a few dance moves on the books.

Mary Claire was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) during a trip to her family home in Wilson, North Carolina to celebrate her Godchild's baptism.  MC's parents, Chip and Joan Satterly, and her siblings, Karen, Laura, and Stephen were all by her side to battle the cancer.  Just four days after her diagnosis, cancer ended her life...but not her "MC Spirit."

Established by friends and family, the MARY CLAIRE SATTERLY FOUNDATION honors this Most Celebrated Spirit.  To learn more about the Foundation as well as upcoming events and fundraisers go to: http://www.mcspirit.org.   

The Foundation's first of many goals is establish the Mary Claire Satterly Pediatric Oncology Playroom in the new NC Cancer Hospital in Chapel Hill.  In the heart of the much anticipated pediatric oncology space, children will find an inviting playroom with MC’s Touch: her artwork and passions displayed throughout the room.  There will be play areas for creativity, music (working on sharing MC’s dance moves) and many educational toys and games.  There may even be a “mini-UNC-Basketball” area.

Still in strong spirits after receiving the first of three painful bone marrow biopsies, MC said, "As soon as I get home, I'm going to comfort any child going through this!"  In this playroom, sick children can just be children, something so dear to Mary Claire.
