Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
WE DID IT!!! YOU GUYS ARE INCREDIBLE!!
MANY THANKS TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED!!
Big Thank You to John Bennett, Ballybunion, The Moonshiners, Pill Hill Radio, and ALL who attended the fundraiser. It was a great time!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
On May 9, 2009, I will be participating in the Police Unity Bicycle Tour. The tour spans four days and covers over 300 miles, departing from NY and ending in Washington, D.C. This ride is in honor of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Your donations will help continue to fund the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and Musuem.
I have visited the Memorial several times in recent years, and find it impossible to appropriately describe this place. The silence is deafening. The wall of fallen officers' names stretches farther than anyone would ever imagine. It is truly awe inspiring. I don't believe anyone walks away without feeling heartbroken. However, there is an eerie sense of comfort (for lack of a better word) knowing that these officers have not been forgotten.
On January 9, 2006, a close friend, Police Officer Francis J. Hennessy, suffered a brain aneurysm while investigating a 911 call of a man with a gun. He died the next morning, leaving behind his wife and their two young daughters. He is survived by his large family, both here and in Ireland, and is forever missed by countless friends and colleagues.
I will be riding to D.C. in Frank's memory, grateful that I was priviledged to have had his friendship, and saddened that he is not here to laugh at what will surely be a ridiculous sight- Megan O'Malley clad in bike riding "gear," complete with spandex and a helmet.
Frank believed in this country, the NYPD, his family and friends, and of course, having a good time! Yes, it is just a bike ride. A long one. But I hope that whatever donations are gathered will help keep alive the memory of fallen officers across the country. Regardless of their assignment, all of these officers were working towards the same goal- making this country a better place. It was devastating to see 'Francis J. Hennessy' etched on that wall, but it's nice to know that his daughters will visit the memorial years from now and see him remembered by so many.
Thank you in advance for your support, and for simply reading this plea of mine. I think that this is going to be an amazing experience and hope to drag some of you MOS with me next year! The good people who run the Police Unity Tour were kind enough to squeeze me in with slightly more than a month before the ride kicks off. As a result of my last minute entry, I am a little behind in fund raising, and am extremely grateful for contributions of any size.
Please forward this to anyone that you think might want to contribute. I've been trying to arrange for each donor to get an autographed wallet sized photo of me in cycling gear, but apparently that is not commonly done on the tour... so sadly, you guys will just have to accept my sincere thanks. Although I know everyone would much rather have awesome photos!
Thanks again! Wish me luck!
PS- If anyone would like to donate, but does not wish to do so online, I can accept cash/check/credit card contributions in person also.
