The Central Park Conservancy is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1980 that manages Central Park under a contract with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. Thanks to the generosity of many individuals, corporations, foundations, and the City of New York, the Conservancy has invested more than $500 million to date into the Park making it a model for urban parks worldwide. The Conservancy provides 85% of Central Park's $27 million annual operating budget and is responsible for all basic care of the Park.
The mission of the Central Park Conservancy is to restore, manage, and enhance Central Park in partnership with the public.
The Conservancy aspires to build a great organization that sets the standard for and spreads the principles of world-class park management — emphasizing environmental excellence — to improve the quality of open space for the enjoyment of all New Yorkers.
The Conservancy is committed to sustaining this operating model to provide a legacy for future generations of Central Park users.
WE DID IT!!
A little over six weeks ago, I committed to running my first marathon and to raising $3,000 for the Central Park Conservancy. Thanks to consistent training and begging on my part and constant giving on yours, I expect to finish Nov. 1 in 4:30, and Central Park is $3,000.75 closer to replacing the natural beauty that was destroyed in last summer's storm.
I've been inspired and grateful every time I've come to this page and seen the list of so many people who believe in me, the park, and New York City. I can't believe how lucky I am to have such fantastic people in my life. Thank you. Also please remember the other important cause I'm running for, the Williams Syndrome Association. I'll be running on their behalf, too, and will continue to accept contributions for them at williams-syndrome.org/marathons/index.html.
Thank you! Meg
