Thank you for visiting my fundraising page in support of the 2009 BROOD Basset Ramble on May 30!
I have supported Basset Rescue of Old Dominion (BROOD) for over 15 years. I started out by fostering basset hounds. My first foster was Jenny, a 6 yr old female found roaming the streets of Baltimore. She was street wise but afraid of storms. I remember how she always curled up in a corner to protect her back and would crawl under the bed when storms came up. Another memorable foster was Annie who came to us with heart worm. She was young, only about 1 year old and had been running in a neighborhood for months. People were chasing her away when she tried to get food. Finally a kind and concerned man coaxed her in. Linda was a dear sweet thing who had the voice of a contra bass player. We could never understand how such a small girl could have such a deep voice. Then there was Chelsea, a 6 yr old girl totally blind from glaucoma. I had her the longest – 6 months - and nearly adopted her myself. I took her to obedience classes and got a Canine Good Citizenship certificate with her and NO ONE knew she was blind.
Thanks to BROOD, all of these dogs were adopted and went on to live out their lives with wonderful families. BROOD was founded in 1996 and since then has found homes for more than a 1000 dogs. BROOD takes in all basset hounds - the old ones, sick ones and just plain scared ones and spends an average of $500 + per dog on vet care and kenneling. Yet the average adoption fee is only $250. The difference has to be made up with fundraising activities like the RAMBLE.
BROOD has been holding its RAMBLE since 1997 and each year it has gotten bigger and better. The RAMBLE attracts more than a hundred basset hounds. This year’s RAMBLE will be at FIDO’s Friend in Thurmont MD on Saturday, May 30. We expect a great turnout. We’ll have games, special activities, raffles and auctions to help raise money.
Help us to save more basset hounds by supporting BROOD. BROOD is an all volunteer organization, so all donations to BROOD are used entirely to rescue and place homeless basset hounds in our area and are fully tax deductible. The hounds need your help to find their forever homes! Check out the BROOD website at www.brood-va.org for more information about the hounds and the upcoming Ramble.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who may want to support Basset Rescue. I hope to raise $1000 with your support for homeless basset hounds.
