Dear Friends & Family:
Hello! I am currently training for the OAR NYC 1/2 marathon in August. I am attempting to raise money to help fund autism research. I will run on behalf of my students: Andrew, Billy, and Nicholas who are diagnosed with autism. I am truly blessed to work with these 3 young men as their speech therapist. Each student has taught me a greater sense of patience, kindness, humor, and the ability to look deeper to find one's true spirit.
Though many of you think running 13.1 miles in NYC August heat is a challenge (or insanity), it is NOTHING compared to the obstacles that people with autism (and their families) face on a daily basis.
Autism is a lifelong disorder, characterized by deficits in communication, social interaction, and the presence of repetitive behaviors or interests. No one knows what causes autism but the rate of children affected by it is skyrocketing--a disturbing 1 in 150 today.
That said, as much as I am uncomfortable asking anyone for money, please consider sponsoring me for this worthy cause. Thank you so much in advance for your support!! All donations are tax-deductible.
Love,
Melissa
P.S. Please note, your online donation is kept private--nobody can see the amount except me. No pressure whatsoever!! Every nickel makes a difference. Thank you again! xoxo
