In 2003, I swam the first 3.5 nautical mile Distant Memories Swim to raise awareness for Alzheimer's Disease which impacts over 55,000 families here on Long Island. Since then, I've been joined by my friends and together we have raised over $21,000 for research and the Alzheimer's Association, Long Island (AALI). At 9:30AM on July 30, 2008, my brother Eric, friends Alex, Dave,& Miki Borg, Sean Bickoff, PJ Hahn, Johnny Gravel, Christine Puccinelli, Sarah Triffiletti, Tom Turchiano, Erika Elgort, Lilly Ohlenschlager, Bonnie, Cassie & Brian Averbuck, Erin McClorey, Patrick Harmon, Jaqueline Congero, and Tim Farino will swim with me from Asharoken Beach in Northport, across Northport Bay, to Knollwood Beach in Huntington to raise funds to fight this disease.
It is estimated that 14-16 million of today's baby boomers will have Alzheimer's Disease. The social, economical, and emotional impact will be devastating. Damage begins 10-20 years before symptoms appear. We must find a way to prevent Alzheimer's Disease now, before the damage begins. By donating, the mind you save may be your own or a loved one's. Please join me and my friends in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease by donating to the Alzheimer's Association Long Island.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure; or send a check to AALI, 3281 Veterans Memorial Highway, Suite E-13, Ronkonkoma, N.Y. 11779 Attn: Distant Memories Swim
