Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page.
We are now volunteering with ABC(All Bassets Cherished) Basset Hound Rescue here in upstate New York. Although I have loved the breed since I was young, this is the most I have gotten involved in helping them and I am thrilled. And Sharon has become quite the Basset lover herself since we brought Cassie into our home!
I (Michelle) was given my first basset hound Jake about 10 years ago. He was only a year old and a beautiful boy. He was being given up because the wife in the family he lived with was pregnant and they were afraid of him jumping on her. At the time I knew very little of rescue and was just thrilled to get my favorite pup for free. I quickly began searching the internet for any info on basset hounds because I honestly had no clue what I was getting into...lol! I found a site called The daily drool (www.dailydrool.com) and it literally changed my life! When I got Jake I thought about breeding him. Then I learned about Basset Hound rescues. I started to read about hounds that were abused, neglected, left abandoned and homeless. This hit the heart strings and I was slowly swayed against breeding. I learned there were thousands of dogs out there in need of homes and tons of rescue organizations donating their time and their money to care for, foster and get these dogs homes. After that I started going to rescue events, donated money and subscribed to the basset list on the daily drool page. It is amazing the stories you hear and all you can learn on a list with thousands of Basset Hound owners and fosters on it!
Anyway to move on. I had Jake for two years and then went through a bad break up. Jake loved my ex so I willingly let Jake go...although it broke my heart. I spent the next 8 years wanting another Basset Hound but I didn't live anywhere I could own one. I kept up with the dailydrool website here and there but kind of lost touch with the rescues.
A few days before Christmas, we adopted what is my second Basset Hound. Her name is Cassie and she will be 4 in July. We found her through petfinder.com at a rescue in Montreal Quebec Canada! At the time I was in contact with several Basset Rescues here in the state including ABC but she just really got my heart. We drove 5 hours to get her and it was well worth it. She was given up by a family who crated her 8 hours a day while they were working and then all night. They had a baby who was allergic to her. Cassie's story is really not a bad one compared to some I have read. But getting her still made me want to volunteer with the local rescue.
This will be our first "waddle" and our first time raisinng money for ABCBHR! I myself am really excited about this opportunity. Now is where all of you come in. We need your help! It is my goal to raise $300+ this year for Basset Hound Rescue. All the money goes to dogs in need, vet bills, food, shots and transportation. All volunteer work is simply just that. We spend our time and gas money to help hounds in need. ABC's waddle is their biggest event of the year and where we need to raise the most money. I ask that you all help out with what you can. Every little amount can make the biggest difference.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
