Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
On October 18, 2009, I ran the Amica Marathon in Newport, RI to raise funds for The Caring for Carcinoid Foundation.
Close to 4000 runners started the marathon and half marathon in extremely bad weather of less than 40 degrees, driving rain and hard wind. Only 2,500 of the 4000 runners managed to finish either race. Even though I came in with very slow time 5:18:21, I was one of only 476 runners who were able to finish the full marathon!
The perseverance of all runners, volunteers and fans was truly admirable. Due to the miserable conditions, there was a shortage of volunteers and my son Michael volunteered on race day and helped out – Not to mention carrying me to the medical tent to be treated for hypothermia when I finished the race.
I fine now and very happy to have been able to complete the race to help The Caring for Carcinoid Foundation work to eliminate the suffering caused by carcinoid and related neuroendocrine tumors. The foundation also strives to help fund work into discovering a cure for carcinoid cancer. Currently the foundation is funding the first large-scale genome study of carcinoid tumors to help understand the genetic makeup of these tumors and hopefully provide guidance towards a cure.
CFCF has won the "Best in America" award from the Independent Charities of America and directs 100% of all donations to research into carcinoid and related neuroendocrine tumors research
My employer, Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals (MIP) is actively developing products to help fight cancer such as this disease and supports the work of the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation. Your contribution along with the research at MIP, will help the Carcinoid Foundation fight cancer. As such, I urge you to please donate generously to this cause.
I've been a runner for a long time, but this is only my second time running 26.2 miles. The experience in Chicago last year was exhilarating and I am confident that I will be able to beat my time of 4 hours and 39 minutes. Running a marathon and the 100 mile charity cycle rides I participate in are some of the hardest physical endeavors I endure but it is nothing compared to what cancer patients go through day to day.
There is still time to contribute to the fight against cancer. Making a contribution through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support the fight against cancer.
Many thanks for your support. - Miguel
