We, as a family, are participating in The Autism Society of America - Northern Virginia's 5th Annual Walk for Autism on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the Prince William County Fairgrounds in Manassas, VA. 

Although our mom, Mildred Rivera, is the only registered participant, Dad will be walking with us as well. 

The focus of this event is on raising funds for the various treatments for children diagnosed with Autism; which is minimally covered by health insurance if at all.  Unfortunately many children go without therapy because of the extreme cost to their family.  Last year, with your help, we were able to raise over $2400 to assist families affected by Autism. 

The incidence of Autism has recently increased from 1 in 150 births per year to a revised 1 in 100 births as of summer 2009.  A child is diagnosed every twenty minutes.  This rate is higher than cerebral palsy, childhood cancer, cystic fibrosis and juvenile diabetes combined.

We have made wonderful gains through continued therapies and treatments, dedicated teachers, school staff, therapists, and, of course, your prayers on our behalf.  We understand that it's been very difficult for many in this economy, so if you are unable to make a contribution, please continue to pray for all those affected by Autism.
