Friends and Family,
 
As you may know, I am racing Ironman Arizona, which will be held November 22, 2009 in Tempe, AZ.  If you are not familiar with Ironman, it is a triathlon that includes the following events, all completed in a row, without rest. on a single day:  2.4 mi swim, followed by a 112 mi bike ride and a 26.2 mile run (also known as a marathon).
 
In case you are counting, that's 140.6 miles of .... sweat, endurance and perhaps even a little fun!  This will be my largest personal physical challenge to date.   
 
I have decided to invite my friends and family to participate in this exciting event by contributing to Ironman's North America Sports Community Foundation (NASCF)and also the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).  My brother was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes 16 years ago and my mother is diabetic as well. My family has always supported furthering research to find a cure for this challenging and lifechanging disease. 
 
You may make a donation to either cause.

Regarding NASCF... money contributed to this fund will be used to provide kids wit.h the opportunity to compete in athletics of all kinds.  I have already made the obligated financial contribution to the Ironman Community Foundation for $750.  If you are willing to make a donation, please make your check payable to Mindy Himmel and you will receive a receipt. 
 

If you would like to make a donation to JDRF, you may do so via this website or mail me a check payable to JDRF if you prefer.

I know that we are in the midst of a very difficult economic cycle so any contribution you are able to make to these well deserving non profit organizations would be much appreciated.... and it's a tax deduction :).  If you do not make a donation, please just keep me in your thoughts as I swim bike and run my way through November...
