Habitat for Humanity transforms lives and communities by making home ownership possible in partnership with people who care. Habitat builds homes for working families whose living conditions are unsound, unsafe or overcrowded. Habitat builds new homes, with skilled volunteers, and sells them with no-interest mortgages. Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor, called "sweat equity", into building their home and the houses of others. Habitat teaches people to be good neighbors and stewards of the resources they have been able to receive.
