Misdiagnosed, ten years ago, with rheumatoid arthritis,
We didn’t understand the hardened skin and tendonitis
When biopsies confirmed mom had systemic-type sclerosis
We shuddered as we learned about the horrible prognosis
Raynaud’s set in along with pain in every joint and junction
Her liver seemed to fail along with pulmonary function
But just as her disease had us preparing for the worst
Her symptoms seemed to level off, and some even reversed
Though never cured, her current health’s the best since diagnosed
We’re grateful and we realize that we’re luckier than most
We hope and pray that she can stay in permanent remission
But even more we want a cure for all with this condition
Scleroderma is a chronic and degenerative disorder with no known cause or cure. Systemic scleroderma (like mom has) results in the tightening of the skin, as well as varying degrees of organ dysfunction. For more information, visit www.scleroderma.org.
Please help us find a cure for this chronic, life-threatening disesase.
