My personal message:

Thank you for visiting my Firstgiving page!

SUDAN SUNRISE is a movement devoted to furthering the efforts of Southern Sudanese Christians to aid and stand in solidarity with Darfurian Muslims, offering peace and reconciliation for a new Sudan.

We are currently raising money to build schools in the villages of Gourion and Turalei in Southern Sudan.  These schools will be a place where Darfurian and Southern Sudanese children can learn side-by-side.

We invite you to join a movement that could change the world.

Sudan is the largest country in Africa. Southern Sudan was the scene of Africa's longest and deadliest civil war. Roughly 1.9 million civilians were killed and more than 4 million were forced to flee their homes. The conflict officially ended with the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in January 2005, yet fighting continues to the present day, and hundreds of thousands remain internally displaced.

Gourion is the home of Francis Buk, the author of "Escape from Slavery", who was abducted into slavery at age 7.  He recently returned for the first time to Gourion, to the site where his family was killed.  "The adults and children of Gourion have one request, 'Help us build a school.' I told them that I would go back to America and find the friends who will help them get the supplies they need to build the school.

This is a big goal, but I know that together we can do it," says Francis.  "As a slave, I was deprived of an education.  There is no more strategic help I can get for the people of my home town than to invest in education for their children."

Southern Sudan has the lowest education indicators in the world. Children who were forced to serve as child soldiers and children orphaned by the war have severe psychological and social needs. School attendance rates are the lowest globally and are especially poor among girls.

Numbers at a Glance
2 percent of boys and less than 1 percent of girls complete primary education
7 percent of teachers have had formal training
82 percent of girls currently do not attend school

Would you like to help us build their future?

My goal is to raise $10,000 for one of the classrooms in Gourion. We're already half way there!!

God bless you for your generosity.

Northwest Regional Representative
Sudan Sunrise

"May the power of His light and love transform Sudan that one day this land will be known as an example of healing, forgiveness, grace and God’s love, not of genocide, slavery and oppression. God can do it! And what a privilege to be involved in God’s offensive!" Tom Prichard, Executive Director of Sudan Sunrise
