***April 5th Update***: I had my left eye surgery on March 31st. My recovering is going very well. I feel so much better now.
My name is Dachs. I am four months old. Let me tell you a little bit about my family. My Mom was picked up by Yuma Animal Control back in November of 2007. They found out that Mom was pregnant and they didn't want us puppies born in the shelter because they had no room for all of us so they contacted New Hope Cattle Dogs Rescue. The Foster Coordinator asked the Volunteers for some help. Our Foster Mom lived in California and said she would take us. So, she met with a Yuma Volunteer and took us home with her. My 4 brothers, 1 sister and I were born on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2007. Our foster mom figured that our Mom had had other puppies and was tired of taking care of them so she wasn't the greatest Mom but we had a great foster mom who made sure we were taken care of all the time. My foster mom knew that my eyes might have some problems from the beginning because I didn't open them as soon as my brothers and sister. But NHCD knew that I deserved a fighting chance and that is what they have given me. I stayed in California for about 3 months before coming to be fostered in Arizona . I have a wonderful foster home now with lots of dogs to play with and wonderful foster parents who love me and take care of me. My foster mom noticed some gunk coming out of my eye and notified New Hope and they decided I better see a Specialist. My Mom was malnourished before she was in the care of NHCD and so the Vet seems to think due to the lack of her nourishment I was born with a detached retina in my left eye and damage to my right eye. I am totally blind in my left and eventually will go blind in my right eye. I am in desperate need of surgery to remove my left eye so I won't be in pain any longer and I will be on medication and drop for my other eye until I go blind in that eye as well. It could be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year or 5 years from now. But I am able to see out of it so they would like to see me keep that eye as long as possible but I will have to be on meds for it to manage the drainage and the pain. New Hope Cattle Dogs Rescue needs your help with funding for me. The surgery is going to cost between $1300 and $1600. They are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and so all funds come from wonderful people like you reading my story. I thank them so much with lots of love to everyone I meet for just giving me a chance at having the best life possible. Won't you thank them too by helping with my huge vet bill? Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and helping NHCD help me!
