New Hampshire Humane Society is a full service animal shelter operating in the Lakes region of the state.
No animal is ever euthanized for space or time constraints, rather, cats, dogs, puppies, kittens, ferrets, rabbits and other furry creatures reside at this charitiable agency until the happy moment when they are placed in permanent loving homes.
Originally a battered women's refuge - a place abused women found safe harbour with their children and the family pets, the shelter focused on animal welfare issues in the 1930's, the human aspect split off at that time. New Hampshire Humane Society has evolved into an organization that now offers spay-neuter assistance to any that need help, the only shelter in the entire state with such a program in place. With an adoption rate of 90% posted in 2006- NHHS is the fourth highest adopting shelter in all of New England.
Only through the efforts, and generosity of ordinary, and sometimes extraordinary folk, can the doors remain open since this charity receives funding from one source... private indivduals.
