In 2004, young professionals asked what they coud do to help local low-income students access educational opportunity. First, they identified 8th graders eager to attend challenging tuition based high schools. Then, they provided each a modest Scholarship so they could access the challenging schools that seemed out of reach. Third, for support, they matched each Scholar with a One on One Mentoring. Four years later, these pioneering "Boston Scholars" are matriculating at four year colleges.

As someone who benefited directly by the intervention of a caring mentor (Mr.Simons), I understand how long term support and encouragement can help a young person achieve goals that once seemed out of reach. At Boston Scholars, we aim to identify youngsters who stand to benefit most from our unique combination of the services we provide (Mentoring, Scholarship & Opportunities).
