Meet Muddy Puppy!!!
Named because he was found in a muddy ditch in the pouring rain. Hit by a car and with two painfully broken back legs, someone did care enough to try to protect him from the driving rain with an old jacket. But not enough to offer him relief from his painful suffering and overwhelming fear. Instead they just drove off leaving this little 4 month old puppy to slowly and painfully die all alone.
An OKBR volunteer driving by feared she had found a child in the rain and stopped to check. Instead, under the jacket she found a very grateful, scared, cold and miserable beautiful black and tan coon-hound puppy!
Now what to do?? Muddy is in severe pain and needs a $2,500 surgery to fix both broken back legs or he needs to be euthanized to relieve his suffering. Time is short.
Help us show Muddy the love he deserves! Please donate toward his surgery! We can't wait long. We have to help Muddy, one way or another. Either way he will know love.

UPDATE: 5/7 - Thank you so much for all your generous donations! Since we were able to raise half of the funds needed for Muddy's surgery - we made the decision to go ahead with his surgery.
We will need to raise the rest of the funds before we can get him out of the vet, so please forward Muddy's story to anyone you know who might be able to donate a few dollars. No donation is too small! Muddy will also be in need of a special foster home!
UPDATE: 5/8 - Muddy's surgery went well, and he is so thankful to be on the road to recovery. He's still in quite a bit of pain and whimpers softly, but will still give you Muddy-Kisses when you rub his ears (the sign of a good hound).
We're still about $1000 short of being able to pay his bill, and we're hoping to be able to do that so that he can come home soon. Muddy is also looking for a special foster home - so if you or someone you know might be interested in helping this sweet boy while he recovers, please let us know.
UPDATE: 5/11 - Muddy is checking out of the hospital! After a tough surgery, Muddy is improving and is on his way to the rescue. We are really close to raising enough to cover the bills for his surgery and hospital stay - and REALLY appreciate your continued donations.
UPDATE: 5/21 - Muddy is continuing to improve, but had a minor set-back this week. During his check-up, they found an additional fracture in one leg that was not seen during the initial surgery when they were trying to repair the more serious damage. Muddy is scheduled for surgery tomorrow, and then hopefully will continue on his road to recovery. Please keep Muddy in your thoughts as he goes through another surgery.
UPDATE: 5/24 - We've reached our goal and Muddy is back at the rescue after his second surgery. He's doing well, but still has a long road to recovery. Click On "More Photos On Flickr" to see some updated pictures. Please keep Muddy in your thoughts. Any amount we raise over our goal will go towards helping the other dogs at the rescue.
UPDATE 9/7 - Happy Labor Day! Muddy has been doing well and is growing into a fine looking hound. Unfortunately, Muddy continued to have complications with one of his legs, so we finally had to make the decision to have it amputated. No fear - Muddy has adjusted well and is doing GREAT. He's a very happy boy who is not bothered at all by his disability. He was running and playing with all the rest of the dogs at the rescue. He's still looking for a good foster - or forever - home. Thank you again for helping us help Muddy!
Our vet has been great in working with us, and with your help - we were "paid in full" as soon as possible so that we can help the next dog in need when it is time.
We are still looking for a special foster home for Muddy, so if you are someone you know can help Muddy with his rehabilitation, please let us know.
Thanks again for your kindness. Your generousity helped save Muddy's life!
