(10/15/09 Update) We've raised $26,316 for PanCAN in honor of Dolly Hsieh. This was beyond our wildest expectations, and is truly a testament to how many lives Dolly touched and how blessed we are to be among such a generous network of friends who understand how underfunded pancreatic cancer research is.

(8/10/09 Update) Dolly ended her battle with pancreatic cancer today at 2PM.  She will be remembered for her vibrancy and strength, her devotion to gardening, good food, travel, and bird feeders, and her never ending love for her family.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please make a donation to PanCAN.

Dear Friends, Family, Friends of Friends, Colleagues, and Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Supporters,

Please support Deborah Hsieh, Jennifer Chen, Victor Chen, Jeff Kuei, Lin Wang, Hideki Kinoshita, Anita Tuteja, and Yvonne Yeh in running a 92-mile relay race to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in honor of Deborah's mother, who has been diagnosed with Stage-4 pancreatic cancer and is currently undergoing treatment to fight this disease.

Our team includes three Cali-kids who will fly out to NJ just to run 13 miles each in muggy, hot, August weather.  Our team name, Under 15 for Dolly, is to represent our struggle to finish this race by the time limit of 15 hours.  Most of the members of the team are not serious runners, and this will be extremely challenging for all of us.  We will end this race with sore muscles and extremely bad tan lines.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the very few cancers for which survival has not improved substantially in the last 30 years. The five-year survival rate was 2 percent in the 1970s and is just 5 percent now. The overall five-year survival rate for all forms of cancer is 66 percent.

Pancreatic cancer is severely under-researched and under-funded. Unlike many cancers, no early detection tools or effective treatments exist for pancreatic cancer.

Please be part of the movement to find a cure for pancreatic cancer.  No donation is too small!  If your company matches your donation, please let me know so I can update the "Amount raised offline" appropriately.

Note: there has been some confusion on this, so we'd like to clarify that the donations are all going to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network; our team is completely financing the race on our own.
