Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!
We chose this photo of us in traditional Bhutanese dress for several reasons:
First, we have been lucky enough to have travelled quite a lot in our lives. This is one of the most interesting countries we have ever visited;
Second: Bhutan, principally a Buddist country, has very little homelessness. A part of their religion, like our Christian faith, requires each person to help others less fortunate;
Finally: The contrast between our blessed life and others is stark. For example, over 17,000.00 New Mexicans experience homelessness every year. More than 1,000 men in Bernalillo County search for basic shelter every night.
Albuquerque Opportunity Center, part of the Metropolitan Homelessness project provides 74 year-round emergency night shelter beds for men. In its four years of operation, AOC has provided almost 40,000.00 nights of shelter to 1300 men, 30% of whom go from the shelter to safe affordable housing. The organization also operates a transitional housing program for veterans, provides respite care and offers free voice mail service for any needy person in the city.
Shepherd of the Valley (our Church) has supported the Metropolitan Homelissness Project financially for several years. We know how much good they do. This year we are increasing our involvement. We are hosting our very own Sleep Out. That's right! Patty and Bill are actually sleeping outside on October 17! to raise funds for MHP and promote awareness about homelessness.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
