As most of you know, I have the privilege of being the Executive Director of Deliver the Dream, a fantastic charity that helps families who are facing serious illness or crisis to regain strength, mend spirits and just be families and kids again.

How do we do that you ask?  We take the families on a four day retreat - in the mountains of Georgia, a beautiful retreat site in North Carolina, or a dude ranch in Florida.  Often times people underestimate how an illness like cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, Autism, traumatic brain injuries, and HIV can affect all members of a family. 

As devastating as the disease or crisis may be, Deliver the Dream focuses on hope of creating a new family bond through fun, honesty, and camaraderie with others who are dealing with the same issues.  It really is a beautiful experience!  15 families who arrive on retreat with a fear of the unknown, begin to trust and allow themselves the opportunity to become whole again.  Four days later, the feeling of commitment to one another is amazing.

In the picture on the left, you will see me with many of our Deliver the Dream volunteers at a retreat for families who have a parent with cancer.  These fine volunteers "lend" four days of their lives for each retreat - often taking off work - to come and make a difference for our families.  The amazing thing is that 95% of our volunteers do this over and over again, for multiple retreats a year.  They often say they get more out of their own experience by giving back - than our families do.  Everyone wins.
