 The Outrage gap

Are you upset about youth violence in Boston, but not sure how to help? Youth and gang violence is a reality in Boston. It's in the press and has been talked about for years. While opinions may differ as to it's causes and how best to prevent it, your participation in this effort will fuel the movement to end youth violence in our city.

Statistics

Over 70% of shootings in Boston occur within a 1.5-mile area and over 50% of this gun violence is perpetrated by 1% of the city's youth population aged 16-24. Entire communities are being held hostage by a small number of people.

How does this impact me?

We all have concerns about our communities, but most of us aren't worried about neighborhood kids dying at the hands of another child. This problem is only miles from our own homes. If shots were fired in your neighborhood what would you do?

Why people walk for Peace

  • To refuse to accept gun violence as the norm within our community.
  • To make our communities safe for our families to reside in and our children to play outside.
  • To show solidarity with fellow neighbours and parents.

The LOUIS D. BROWN PEACE INSTITUTE,  assists and empowers families impacted by violence by providing support to survivors of homicide.  Applying their peace curriculum in area schools, the Peace Institute works to instill the value of peace in young people. Through education, collaboration and policy advocacy, the Peace Institute works to raise awareness of the causes and consequences of violence on the individual, the family and the community.
