In 2008 PEPY received a commitment from an international foundation to fund the construction of a new junior high school building in Chanleas Dai Commune. The existing junior high school currently has 7th and 8th grades and is temporarily housed in thatch-roofed open-air classrooms on the grounds of the PEPY Ride primary school. Construction of the new school was slated to begin in early 2009, but the foundation has since backed out of its funding commitment. PEPY firmly believes that the junior high school is a necessary next step for education in the community because:

• There is not enough classroom space for all current junior high students.
• The 6th grade graduating class is growing each year at the PEPY Ride primary school and demand for secondary education is higher than ever.
• A new school building will enable PEPY to extend its English and XO computer programs to junior high students.
• The new school will provide easier access to secondary education for the students living in Chanleas Dai. The next closest junior high school is in Kralanh, at least 8km away.
• The new school will provide a comfortable, positive learning environment for students.
• The new junior high school will motivate primary school students to graduate and continue their education.

PEPY has built strong relationships within Chanleas Dai and is determined to honor the commitment to build the new junior high school. Collectively, we feel confident that amongst our families and friends, PEPY can raise the requisite capital to fund this new educational opportunity for the students of Chanleas Dai.
