Its that time of year again when it starts to get colder and some of us that may need evaluations decide to raise money for the Special Olympics.  Last year was a great success, extremely cold and windy, but a success.  I had great financial support prior to the plunge and mental support during the plunge.  I cannot thank you enough for your previous support.

I'm taking part in the Super Plunge 2009 - Des Moines to raise money for Special Olympics Iowa Inc and would really welcome your support. What this means is I will be taking a dip in Big Creek Lake once an hour for 24 hours. 

As most of you know my son Nik participates in Special Olympics (golf, basketball and bowling) and loves it.  Now that he is out on his own, as many of the athletes, it is important for them to be able to access events for little or no cost.  Nik works part time and receives social security.  He, as many other special needs individuals, live off less than $900 per month.  Since Special Olympics Iowa is one of the only states that pays for all the costs for the athletes to compete, it is very important that fundraising events like this one are successful.  Events like this one make it possible for a majority of athletes to particiapte.  It takes a pretty good budget to suppor over 13,000 registered athletes.

So with all that said, I would greatly appreciate you support this year.  Again, I have to raise $2,000 to participate, but as with everything we try to improve over last year.  My goal for this year is $3,000.  You can donate through the web site or sending me a check made out to Special Olympics Iowa - Polar Plunge
