The Porch Surfers are Hugh Powell, Mike & Laurie Cecere, and Charles & Erin Eldermire.  We are riding (for the second time) in this year's AIDS Ride for Life to help support the mission of the Southern Tier AIDS Program (STAP).

Surprisingly, AIDS is New York’s #2 killer of adults age 25-44 years old, and New York is #1 in the US in AIDS cases.  STAP therefore fills a much-needed service in New York.  All of the money raised is used by STAP to support the programs and services that they provide.  STAP provides programs for the prevention of this incurable disease, as well as HIV testing, support and other resources for infected and non-infected individuals and loved ones.

Last year the Porch Surfers raised over $2000 for STAP; this year, however, we’re mixing things up a bit.  At the time of the ride, Erin will be over seven months pregnant!  She still plans to join the ride, although she will only cycle the first 50 miles, then she’ll put her feet up and cheer the rest of the team on for the remainder.  Meanwhile, Charles & Hugh plan to do more than the mere 100-miles.  Over the two days previous, they'll ride an additional 200 miles, to bring their grand total to 300 miles over three days.  Call us crazy, but that’s the plan.

On September 12, we will join Hugh, Mike and Laurie to once again form The Porch Surfers.  One (and a half) of us will ride 50 miles, most of us will ride 100 miles, and a few of us will be finishing up a 300-mile distance by the end of the day.  

Anything you can give to help support STAP's mission would be greatly appreciated, and all donors will receive a limited edition Porch Surfers decal with which to tag your neighborhood!
