Saturday August 10, 2013
Casco Bay morning paddle, followed by traditional Maine seaweed lobster bake and barbecue.
Now in its third year, the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp Challenge will take place at Winslow Park in Freeport. Paddlers of all skill levels, ages and abilities are welcomed to a family-oriented paddle event on Casco Bay to help raise money for Pine Tree Camp. The event will kick off with a lunchtime paddle. Different paddle routes are available to meet every paddle need, from "never been in a kayak" to experienced. Paddlers will return to shore early afternoon for a late lunch barbecue, lobsterbake and Gifford’s ice cream!

The Paddle for Pine Tree Camp is a fundraising event designed to help Maine children and adults with disabilities attend Pine Tree Camp, a fully accessible summer camp. Since 1945, Pine Tree Camp has never turned away a camper because of their inability to pay the $1,900 tuition. In fact, 99% of campers receive full or partial scholarships. Pine Tree Camp hosts fundraisers to help raise money to ensure that all who can benefit from Pine Tree Camp's experience are able to attend.

All money raised through the Paddle for Pine Tree Camp Challenge will benefit the 650 Maine kids and adults with disabilities who will attend Pine Tree Camp this summer. When campers arrive at Pine Tree Camp, they leave behind the confines of their disability and simply enter a world that is barrier-free. Campers are able to get off the sidelines and actively participate in all the activities for which Maine is famous - hiking, swimming, boating and even spending time in Maine's only accessible treehouse. With your help, campers are able to make friends; friends who understand what they are going through. It is no wonder that Pine Tree Camp is the highlight of their year.
