My personal message:

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! In December 2006 I ran my first marathon in Honolulu and I did a fundraiser for Keep A Child Alive. Thanks to the support of many amongst friends and family, more than $1700 were donated to this non-profit organization (more info below).

This next July 29th I will run my second marathon in San Francisco and I will run again for Keep A Child Alive. Please take a minute to check out what this organization is all about. I will continue to run marathons to support our fellow human beings in dire need until the day that this ridiculous, extreme poverty has been made part of history... This marathon by itself will not solve the problems, but combining all the actions that people take, at different levels and different fronts will steadily resolve these issues..... one by one, step by step.... we are much more powerful when we stand together.

Donating to Keep A Child Alive through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. When you click on "Sponsor me now" on this page your money will be donated to Keep A Child Alive. Alternatively, you can donate directly on their web site or donate off line: http://keepachildalive.org/donate.php

Any donation that you can make, regardless of the amount, will motivate me to finish those 26 miles in San Francisco. Many thanks for your support, and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

You can stay informed about the preparations for this marathon and the fundraiser on my blog: http://www.myspace.com/hans444.

Have a Beautiful Day!

Hans

KEEP A CHILD ALIVE is an urgent response to the AIDS pandemic ravaging Africa. With 28 million already dead, the disease continues, wiping out whole societies, threatening economic infrastructure and creating tragic devastation in the family structure.

TREATMENT Anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment has transformed the lives of people with AIDS in the West, returning them from sickness to health. But less than 5% of children with AIDS have access to these life-saving drugs.

CARE: Keep a Child Alive provides medical services needed to make treatment possible. Doctors, nutrition, testing, transportation, and treatment for opportunistic infections are all necessary for anti-retroviral treatment to be successful. When necessary, KCA also provides nutrition for its patients.

ORPHANS: Currently 14 million children have lost one or both parents to AIDS, and by 2010 the number is expected to reach 25 million. These children will face enormous risks in their struggle to stay alive. Keep a Child Alive builds and sustains orphanages to keep the most vulnerable children out of harm's way. Orphanages are a last resort, but necessary when children have no extended family to turn to for support.

You may also want to check out the ONE campaign at http://www.one.org:

ONE is Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life – united as ONE – to help make poverty history. We are a campaign of over 2.4 million people and growing from all 50 states and over 100 of America’s most well-known and respected non-profit, advocacy and humanitarian organizations. As ONE, we are asking our leaders to do more to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. ONE believes that allocating more of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries.

ONE is nonpartisan; there’s only one side in the fight against global AIDS and extreme poverty. Working on the ground in communities, colleges and churches across the United States, ONE members ask America’s leaders to increase efforts to fight global AIDS and extreme poverty, from the U.S. budget and G8 summits to specific legislation on debt cancellation, increasing effective international assistance, making trade fair, and fighting corruption. Everyone can join the fight at ONE.org.

The ONE campaign wants your voice.... do you want to be heard?
