The Legend of the Silver Paddle
"In 1955 in the icy boundary waters of Canada a Scout Troop was camping off a remote Island only reachable by Canoe. While fishing for their food one of the Scouts fell in the water and had to be rescued. Despite the troops’ best efforts the boy suffered from severe hypothermia and needed immediate medical attention. Two brave Scout leaders volunteered to canoe the boy the 48 miles to the nearest ranger station though no one gave them much of a chance to make it in time. The two men were said to have made the trip in under an hour and had no explanation for this miraculous feat. The Scout recovered and the canoe paddle they used was coated in Silver to commemorate the feat and stands as a trophy today to those who are willing to race to support a Scout"

This 4th annual event is a grass roots fundraiser to generate support for the programs of the Simon Kenton Council, Boy Scouts of America. It is to be held at Walnut Bluffs Park at Hoover Reservoir on Saturday June 13th. The goal is to have over 200 participants from the community at large, corporations, Scouts, Scouting volunteers, and community groups. Corporate sponsors will enter their own two person teams and sponsor Scout teams. Teams will race a course on the Lake at Hoover Reservoir to attempt to post the fastest time. The event will conclude with a catered meal for participants and volunteers and an awards ceremony.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will be used to support the Simon Kenton Council Aquatics program by purchasing equipment and gear for our camps and canoe clinics. The rest of the proceeds will be donated the Simon Kenton Council Community Friends of Scouting Campaign to support local Scouting programs.
