Vermont Esperanza 5K
About Safe Passage: Safe Passage was founded in 1999 by Maine-native Hanley Denning to help the children working in and around the Guatemala City garbage dump enroll in school and offer educational enrichment. Safe Passage now provides nutrition, healthcare, education and social services to more than 550 children living in extreme poverty. Safe Passage also supports the mothers of these children through adult literacy programming and an entrepreneurship program. Hanley Denning died tragically in a car accident in 2007, but her dream lives on thanks to the support of people like you.
About the Event: Last year former long-term Safe Passage volunteers living in the Burlington area started this event to raise funds for Safe Passage. Come run or walk with us on Mother’s Day in honor of the hard-working mothers in the Guatemala City garbage dump community! Thanks to you, last year we raised almost $7,000 for Safe Passage, help us meet our goal of raising $7,500 this year!
